Lock up your Styrofoam!

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

My chooks are little bastards sometimes. They seem to like pecking-to-bits my Styrofoam boxes and then proceeding to eat the damm stuff. And you are very right to question my soundness of mind in the way I seem to be protective towards Styrofoam boxes but it is a two sided coin. One side is the fact that I use them to grow things in and the other is that I don’t want my hens to die from eating crap! I thought they were smarter than that. You know that you have sort of slipped from the normal every day sheep mentality which some people call reALity when you think chickens are somewhat intelligent. But…. Hey…. They do seem to know how to manage their social structures much better than humans. Read: war, greed, religion, digital watches, etc. etc.I have had a great week thinking this week. I have been pondering the fact that the
first person to nail me in my guest book has come from a religious perspective. I wasted time wracking my brain to think of a smart-assed or pontificating thing to say back, I wasted time thinking about alternative theories of the universe, I wasted time thinking about how I was wasting time and I wasted time giving time any more thought than
should decently be given. Then I looked at the sky some, and got onto some watching as well.

Last Friday I was in a small “New Age” bookshop in a small town called Warragul inquiring about the local “scene”. I explained to the people behind the counter that that was the only word I thought of at the time (damm time….). They explained to me that it was quite lively, with threats of hell and damnation, all the way to crystal hunters and mystics seeking the third wave of the intergalactic federations rescue ship. This made me have a warm fuzzy feeling inside and so I inquired about the people who cursed them (partaking in the usual pagan ritual of cursing but denying their pagan roots at the same
time. I know in myself it is the hardest thing when I find out my actions and thoughts are just a form of denial engine). They told a story and I left feeling a little bewildered at the human race again but not for long because, last week, the lady at the laundromat said to
me “Each to their own!”.This happened three times in the space of about four days. People said to me “Each to their own”. This also happened at a time when I was forced to move to Temperance and see some of the stupidity of my dogmas.
